NYPD Wrongful Arrest Suit

The NYPD and City Of New York are looking to settle with Aikio Garnes for an civil suit brought about in 2003. The complaintant was wrongfully arrested for weapons possession and jailed. Civil attorneys for Mr. Garnes stated not only was his rights violated once but the police made numerous attempts to cover their actions. Official misconduct, wrongful arrest, unlawful imprisonment, false reporting the nature of their car stop. The unit that allegedely pulled Mr. Garnes car over in 2001 was a gun unit out of Harlem's eastside 25 precient. This same unit is under investigation for other frivilous car stops that led to an alarming 90% of their cases to be thrown out on technicalities by Manhattan's District Attorneys Office. We do understand that Mr. Garnes is set to receive a seven figure settlement. Now The NYPD is trying to track down bad cops by looking for clues in this civil case alleging police misconduct, the Daily News has learned.
